Lawyer Crossword
Terms of Use
Effective date: October 6, 2026
1. Agreement to these terms §
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") are a binding agreement between you and RB-KinneySoft LLC, a North Carolina limited liability company ("we", "us", "our"). They govern your use of the Lawyer Crossword app for iPhone and its supporting services (together, the "app").
By downloading, opening or using the app, or by creating an account, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
These Terms are the end-user license agreement for the app and replace Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. Our Privacy Policy at https://rb-kinneysoft.com/lawyer-crossword/privacy explains how we handle personal information; it is not part of this contract.
2. Who can use the app §
You must be at least 18 years old to use the app. By using it you confirm that you are 18 or older and that you are legally able to enter into this agreement.
3. Your account §
Some features require an account, which you create with an email address and a password.
- Give us an email address you control, and keep it current. We use it to sign you in, reset your password and send notices about your account.
- Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly through Support in the app if you believe someone else has used it.
- One person per account. Do not share, sell or transfer your account.
- You can delete your account at any time in the app under Record › Settings › Account and your data › Delete account. Deletion is permanent. It removes your account and the data tied to it as described in the Privacy Policy.
- Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription billed by Apple. Cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings first (see section 6).
4. License and acceptable use §
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the app on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. The app may also be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing. The app is licensed to you, not sold.
You agree not to:
- copy, modify, translate or create derivative works of the app or its puzzles, clues or notes, except as the law expressly allows;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except where the law permits it despite this restriction;
- republish, sell, rent, sublicense or distribute puzzles, clues, answers or notes, or use them to build a competing product or to train a machine-learning model;
- use scripts, bots, scrapers or other automated means to access the app or to solve or extract puzzles;
- interfere with the app's security, servers or networks, or try to reach another person's account or data;
- manipulate standings, streaks or ranks by cheating or by using more than one account;
- use a display name or other input that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, obscene, impersonates another person or infringes someone's rights;
- use the app in violation of any law.
5. Intellectual property and feedback §
We and our licensors own the app and everything in it, including the software, design, puzzles, clues, notes, text and graphics. Copyright, trademark and other laws protect them. These Terms give you no rights in them beyond the license in section 4.
"Lawyer Crossword" and our logos are our marks. Do not use them without our written permission.
If you send us suggestions or feedback, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free right to use them for any purpose, with no obligation to you.
6. Subscriptions and purchases §
Some puzzles, packs and features are available only with a paid subscription. All purchases are made through Apple's in-app purchase system and are also subject to Apple's terms.
- What you get and what it costs. The subscription screen in the app shows the name of each subscription, its length, what it includes and its price before you buy. Prices may differ by country and may include tax.
- Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
- Automatic renewal. A subscription renews automatically for the same period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Canceling. You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in your Apple Account settings (Settings > your name > Subscriptions) or at https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you keep access until then. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
- Free trials and offers. If we offer a free trial or introductory price, the subscription screen states how long it lasts and what you will be charged when it ends. You will be charged that price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or offer ends.
- Refunds. Apple, not us, handles billing and refunds for in-app purchases. Request a refund from Apple at https://reportaproblem.apple.com. Except where the law requires otherwise, payments are non-refundable and we do not give credit for partly used periods.
- Restoring purchases. If you reinstall the app or change devices, use the Restore purchase link on the Subscribe screen to restore an active subscription.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a subscription, you will be notified in advance and, where Apple or the law requires it, asked to accept the new price before it applies to you.
- Changes to what is included. We may add, change or retire puzzles, packs and features over time. We will not remove the core benefit of a subscription during a period you have already paid for.
Nothing in this section limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived, including any right to withdraw from a purchase.
7. Puzzle content is not legal advice §
The app is a crossword game for entertainment and general interest. Its clues, answers and notes about legal terms and doctrines are simplified, may be incomplete or out of date, and may not reflect the law of any particular jurisdiction.
- Nothing in the app is legal advice, and using the app does not create a lawyer-client relationship with us or anyone else.
- Do not rely on anything in the app in a legal matter, in advising a client, or in academic or professional work. Consult a licensed lawyer or primary sources.
- The app has not been reviewed, approved or certified by any attorney, law school, bar association or bar examiner. It is not a law-school course, a bar-exam preparation course or a study aid, and it carries no continuing legal education credit.
- Ranks, standings, streaks and mastery levels describe your play in the game. They are not a measure of legal knowledge, competence or exam readiness.
- We make no promise that using the app will improve any grade, exam result or professional outcome.
8. Standings and information you share §
Standings are optional. If you opt in, your handle and standing, and your firm if you opt in to your firm's colleague table, are shown to other users. You can opt out at any time in Settings, and we will remove you from standings.
You are responsible for what you enter. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host and display that information in the app for as long as you stay opted in. You confirm that it is accurate and that it follows section 4.
We may change or remove a display name, remove a user from standings, or suspend an account that breaks these Terms. To report a display name or other content, use Support in the app; we review reports promptly.
9. Suspension and termination §
You may stop using the app and delete your account at any time.
We may suspend or end your access, with or without notice, if you materially break these Terms, if we must do so to comply with law, or if your use puts the app or other users at risk. We may also discontinue the app. If we discontinue the app, or end your access when you have not broken these Terms, you may request a pro-rated refund of any prepaid subscription period from Apple, and we will support that request.
When this agreement ends, your license ends and you must stop using the app. Sections 5, 7 and 10 to 16 continue to apply.
10. Disclaimers §
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, THAT ITS CONTENT IS ACCURATE, COMPLETE OR CURRENT, OR THAT YOUR PROGRESS OR DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms removes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be waived.
11. Limitation of liability §
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE AND OUR MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES AND SUPPLIERS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN TOLD SUCH DAMAGES ARE POSSIBLE.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE APP OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE APP IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM AND (B) US $50.
These limits apply to every theory of liability, including contract, tort, negligence and strict liability. They do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits, so some of them may not apply to you.
12. Indemnity §
To the extent the law allows, you will indemnify us and hold us harmless against third-party claims, and the resulting losses and reasonable legal costs, that arise from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the app, or information you submit to the app. This section does not apply to consumers in jurisdictions where such an obligation is unenforceable.
13. Governing law and disputes §
Talk to us first. If you have a dispute with us, write to us through Support in the app with a description of the problem and what you want done. Each side will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days before starting a legal action.
Governing law. The laws of the State of North Carolina govern these Terms and any dispute arising from them or the app, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
Courts. Any legal action must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and you and we consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. Either side may instead bring an individual claim in a small-claims court that has jurisdiction.
Individual claims only. To the extent the law allows, you and we agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity and not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective or representative action.
Time limit. To the extent the law allows, a claim must be filed within one year after it arose.
Consumers outside the United States. If you are a consumer living in a country whose law gives you mandatory protections or the right to sue in your home courts, this section does not take those rights away.
14. Changes to the app and these Terms §
We may update the app and these Terms. If a change to these Terms is material, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons. The effective date at the top shows the current version.
If you keep using the app after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the app and cancel any subscription before the change takes effect.
15. General §
- Entire agreement. These Terms are the whole agreement between you and us about the app and replace earlier agreements on that subject.
- Severability. If a court finds part of these Terms unenforceable, that part is enforced to the extent possible and the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, we have not waived it.
- Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours to an affiliate or to a successor to the business that operates the app.
- Third-party terms. When you use the app you must also follow any third-party terms that apply to you, such as your wireless data agreement.
- Notices. We may give you notice in the app or at the email address on your account. Send notices to us at the address in section 17.
16. Apple-specific terms §
You obtained the app through the Apple App Store, so the following terms apply. "Apple" means Apple Inc.
- Acknowledgement. These Terms are between you and RB-KinneySoft LLC only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Scope of license. Your license is limited to a non-transferable license to use the app on Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may be accessed and used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for any maintenance and support of the app, as described in these Terms or required by law. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- Warranty. We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, subject to these Terms.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including (a) product liability claims, (b) claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and (c) claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws. These Terms do not limit our liability to you beyond what the law permits.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims that the app, or your possession and use of it, infringes its intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent and warrant that (a) you are not located in a country that is subject to a United States Government embargo or that the United States Government has designated a "terrorist supporting" country, and (b) you are not listed on any United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. When you accept these Terms, Apple has the right, and is deemed to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
